April 15, 2021

Apple does it again! On April 20, 2021 Apple announced that it will be launching its first ever AirTag, a small elegant accessory that helps you keep track of the things that matter most. You can use this on anything from keys, phone, bag, etc. It connects via Apple’s Find My App. This is what we have all been waiting for, no more lost remote control or misplaced car keys! Best of all the price tag on this gadget is very reasonable and will be available as of Friday, April 30.

What’s an AirTag and how much do they cost?

AirTag is a small device that you can clip on to any of your most beloved possessions. You can use it with a key chain to clip on to your keys or bag or you can use it without the key chain and slip it in your wallet or place it in your car. The possibilities on what you can use this accessory on are endless! It’s sleek design is small and round made out of water and dust resistant stainless steel. It has a built in speaker to play sounds to make it easier for you to locate this item. AirTag will also have a removable cover so that you can easily replace the battery. You can purchase this device starting this Friday, April 30 and it only costs $29 for one or a 4-pack for $99. You are also able to further personalize your AirTag with free engraving when you purchase it through Apple.com.

How does the AirTag work?

Apple says the connectivity is very similar to connecting AirPods, just bring the AirTag near your iPhone and it will connect. You can also assign AirTag to an item and name it whatever you’d like for example, “Leia’s keys” or “Amy’s luggage”. AirTag seems very user friendly as it can be paired with your iPhone and you can track it through the Find My app. Once your AirTag is set up it will appear in the new items tab in the Find My app. From there you will be able to view it’s current or last known location on the map. If you are within bluetooth range when you misplace your item you can use the Find My app to play a sound from the AirTag to help find it. Even better, you can ask Siri to find your “item” and AirTag will play a sound if it is nearby.

AirTag accessories and Hermes

Users will also be able to purchase separate accessories like the polyurethane loop ($29), the leather loop ($39) or the leather key ring ($35). The enclosure of each accessory will fit securely around your AirTag so that you can conveniently attach it to your belongings. Also, Hermes is introducing the AirTag Hermes which are an elegant assortment of leather accessories. You can purchase the Bag Charm, Key Ring, Travel Tag, and even a Luggage Tag separately with a custom logo engraving on your AirTag. Third party vendors have already created these AirTag accessory options awaiting the AirTag launch. The AirTag doesn’t attach to anything straight out of the box so you will need to purchase separate accessories for it.

“With its design, unparalleled finding experience, and built-in privacy and security features, AirTag will provide customers with another way to leverage the power of the Apple ecosystem and enhance the versatility of iPhone.” said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president.
