Selling your iPhone can be an easy way to make some extra cash, but before you do, it’s important to make sure that all of your personal information is wiped from the device. Here’s how to erase an iPhone so you can sell it.
Step 1: Back up your data
Before you erase your iPhone, it’s important to make sure you have a backup of all of your important data. This can include photos, contacts, messages, and any other information you want to keep. You can back up your data using iCloud or iTunes.
To back up using iCloud, go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup, then tap Back Up Now. To back up using iTunes, connect your iPhone to your computer, open iTunes, and select your device. Click “Back Up Now” to begin the backup process.
Step 2: Sign out of iCloud
Once you’ve backed up your data, you’ll need to sign out of iCloud. This is important because it will remove the activation lock on your iPhone, which is a security feature that prevents someone from using your device without your permission.
To sign out of iCloud, go to Settings > [Your Name] > Sign Out. Enter your Apple ID password and tap Turn Off. Then, tap Sign Out again to confirm.
Step 3: Erase all content and settings
Now that you’ve backed up your data and signed out of iCloud, you’re ready to erase all content and settings from your iPhone. This will erase everything on your device and restore it to its factory settings.
To erase your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Enter your passcode and tap Erase iPhone. This process may take a few minutes, depending on the amount of data on your device.
Step 4: Remove SIM card
Once the erase process is complete, you should remove the SIM card from your iPhone. The SIM card is what connects your iPhone to your cellular network, and removing it will prevent anyone from using your phone number or data plan.
To remove the SIM card, insert a SIM removal tool (or a paperclip) into the small hole next to the SIM tray. Press down gently until the tray pops out. Remove the SIM card and store it in a safe place.
Step 5: Sell your iPhone
Now that you’ve erased your iPhone and removed the SIM card, you’re ready to sell it. You can sell your iPhone on websites like eBay, OCBuyBack, or Apple.
Erasing your iPhone before selling it is an important step to protect your personal information and prevent unauthorized access to your device. By following these steps, you can ensure that your iPhone is ready for its next owner.
Now that your phone is totally erased, it’s ready to sell. Click here to see just how much you can get for your old iPhone!
